The signature drill of the Miami Dolphins’ new OLBs coach involves him taking unpadded hits from his linebackers

The Miami Dolphins are in the process of completely remaking their organization. After two straight winning seasons, the Dolphins shockingly fired head coach Brian Flores in January, eventually hiring 38-going-on-13-year-old head coach Mike McDaniel to replace him. That sparked a comprehensive coaching staff overhaul, which continued on Tuesday with reports the Dolphins were set to hire Darrell Bevell as their new quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator and Tyron McKenzie as outside linebackers coach. That’s McKenzie in the gray hoodie getting willingly (and pad-lessly) truck sticked by his linebackers in practice. Looks like the Dolphins got themselves a wild card.

In all seriousness, however, if you want to earn the respect of your guys, this is the express-lane way to do it. In many ways, it’s reminiscent of when the Dolphins promoted Dan Campbell after the Joe Philbin firing in 2015 and he immediately began running Oklahoma Drills in front of local news cameras. Was that a risk to mind, body, and career? Was it the behavior of a borderline deranged person? Yes and yes. But Campbell is now winning football games in Detroit of all places. As for the remaining Dolphins leadership roles left to fill, there are rumors they could soon be looking for a new owner (we know, kind of a big one) after Flores accused Stephen Ross of offering tanking bounties during the 2019 season. Those are big shoes to fill, but allow us to nominate McKenzie. Nothing asserts dominance in the board room like looking a man in the eyes, taking his best shot, and then asking “please sir, may I have some more?”
