Tough Break

It feels like a good day to mention that Lincoln Riley's dogs are named Boomer and Sooner

November 29, 2021

By now, you’ve probably heard the news. No, not Omicron. Not Scherzer to the Mets. Not anything else happening on Planet Earth today. Only one bit of news can be considered the news and that is Lincoln Riley, hours after losing to Oklahoma State and vehemently shutting down LSU head coaching rumors, absconding to USC in the middle of the night with his coaching staff in tow.

It is the biggest betrayal in the history of college football ... since Oklahoma ditched the Big 12, that is.

In one fell swoop, Riley put USC back on the map and reduced Oklahoma to an SEC West punching bag. The ramifications were felt far, wide, and fast as the Sooner decommits rolled in and the coaching carousel spun to Norman, dragging names like Kliff Kingsbury and Ed Orgeron along for the ride. Feelings were hurt, egos were bruised, and banners were hung.

But lost in the uproar, amidst the videos of Lincoln Riley and family touching down in La La Land wearing a slightly different hue of crimson, is this hilarious and heartbreaking piece of poetic justice that might just help the Sooners to, uh, lick their wounds. A reminder, dear friends:

As the savvy commenters point out, this is NOTHING compared to newly minted Oklahoma coaching candidate Lane Kiffin naming his son Knox during his (very) brief tenure at Tennessee, but still, it’s a comforting to know that every time Riley has to call the dogs off the mailman, he’ll be reminded of Saturday afternoons at The Palace on the Prairie.
