Masters 2025: Ken Griffey Jr. (yes, that Ken Griffey Jr.) is working for the Masters as a photographer this week

Daniel Shirey
If we were to tell you that Ken Griffey Jr. was spotted on the grounds of Augusta National this week, you probably wouldn’t bat an eye. After all, Griffey is a retired superstar athlete with a deep love of golf, and the Masters is a high-powered magnet for that demographic. Griffey’s presence at the 2025 Masters isn’t about leisure, though. Instead, the Hall of Fame centerfielder is moonlighting as an official photographer for Masters.com this week. Yes, really.
Griffey was spotted snapping a few photos (and signing a few autographs) at the honorary starter ceremony on Thursday morning, where Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson rang in the most wonderful weekend of the year. Griffey also shot a portion of the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday, capturing this great photo of Jordan Spieth and his daughter Sophie.

Augusta National
While the Masters may be Griffey’s biggest gig yet, his passion for photography has seen him shoot NFL games, Inter Miami matches and even the MLB Home Run Derby. Legendary sports photographer Walter Iooss, a longtime friend of Griffey, told Golf Digest that the former Mariner has more photo gear than any photographer he’s ever met.
It will take a lot more than a closetful of cameras if Griffey wants his output behind the lens to match his output on the diamond, but as hundreds of pitchers learned hard way, you should never, ever underestimate The Kid.
