Justin Thomas signing glove for volunteer seconds after missing chip to send him to FedEx Cup is pure class

August 07, 2023

On Sunday, Justin Thomas was the victim of the miss heard ‘round the world. Needing to hole a chip on the 72nd hole to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Thomas could only watch as his ball skipped off the flagstick and bounced out, leaving him one spot shy of pro golf’s lucrative postseason.

It isn’t easy being the last guy out in anything, let alone a multi-million-dollar, winner-take-all shootout, but Thomas is no noob. He’s experienced both sides of the coin. Heck, he once came back from seven shots down on a major Sunday to win. How do you think Will Zalatoris and Mito Pereira felt that day? So when it came time for JT to face the music on Sunday, he did so with class, signing a glove for a volunteer who helped his grandmother seconds after one of the biggest disappointments of his career. Fire up the feel-good machine and check it out.

You unironically love to see it. Hopefully the gesture not only made this volunteer’s weekend but also helped to take some of the sting out of Thomas’ gut-wrenching near-miss. It’s been a tough-season for the two-time major winner, but he’s not letting the state of his game on the course impact his behavior off of it. After all, if you can’t show dignity in defeat, then you’ll always be a loser.
