This Justin Rose shank was so pure it may have hit a parked truck

    March 04, 2021

The crack of the bat when a baseball player hits the sweet spot on the barrel. The swish of the net in basketball. The thump of an overhead in tennis. There are some unmistakably awesome sounds in sports.

But the sound of a shank in golf is not one of them.

Viewers turning into early PGA Tour Live coverage of the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational were treated to such on Thursday monring. And from a surprising source in former World No. 1 Justin Rose.

The man who possesses a gold medal managed to hit one of the purest-sounding shanks you'll ever hear. Watch—and more importantly, listen:

Yikes. That's the stuff of nightmares right there, folks. And did he hit that off a parked truck? Been there, done that, am I right, weekend hackers? NOT the way you want to start a tournament.

By the way, what was a truck even doing there? In any event, Rose was fortunate his ball stayed in bounds on the par-5 12th hole, his third of the day. Despite the hideous shank for his third shot, his fourth shot found the green and he two-putted for a not-so-hideous bogey.
