Who will be the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2024? It’s way, wayyyy too early to say, but if you have your money on Joe Highsmith, things are looking up. On Friday, in Highsmith’s second-ever PGA Tour start following a missed cut at the Sony Open earlier this month, the 23-year-old Pepperdine product set sail on the par-3 13th, stared down the choppy seas and reeled in this incredible ace. Check it out.
That’s a hell of a way to start your PGA Tour career. Perhaps even better than Highsmith’s first-career one—which put him in prime position to make his first-career cut—was his bucket hat, which appears to still be a bit too big for the young lefty. It wasn’t just a "camera adds 10 hat sizes" illusion either. His PGA Tour profile picture is perhaps even more comically mis-proportioned.
The kid is swimming in that thing! The good news is Highsmith still has plenty of filling out to do, both physically and as a PGA Tour pro. Keep notching those hole-in-ones, however, and he’ll grow into that hat in no time.
