To win the Travelers Championship on Sunday required one simple strategy: Go low. And if you did that while already holding the 54-hole lead, as was the case for Keegan Bradley, you weren’t just going to win, but win comfortably.

With a closing 68 at TPC River Highlands to follow up rounds of 62-63-64, the 37-year-old New England native broke the 71-year-old event’s 72-hole scoring record by one shot. A 23-under 257 total was three shots clear of runners-up Zac Blair and Brian Harman, giving Bradley his sixth career PGA Tour victory and the second of the 2022-23 season.

With the victory, Bradley claimed the first-place prize money payout of $3.6 million from the $20 million purse at this latest PGA Tour designated event. That payday helped push Bradley past the $40 million mark in career earnings.

Bradley, who had a six-shot lead at one point on the back nine, allowing him to make bogeys on the 13th, 14th and 16th holes and still roll to the title, bucked the recent trend at the Travelers. Only three of the last 11 54-hole leaders had been able to close out the victory in Cromwell, Conn., Bradley joining Jordan Spieth in 2017, Chez Reavie in 2019 and Xander Schauffele in 2022. And having held 54-hole leads four previous times in his career, this is the first time he was able to turn it into a victory
