Golfer gets paired with two NBA champs, takes early entry for photo of the year
Sometimes you get paired with an old guy who can’t stop telling you about his golf exploits. Or maybe you get paired with a group of 20-somethings drinking as if their life depended on it. There are many possibilities, but maybe, just maybe, you’ll get paired with two NBA players and have the round of your life.
That’s exactly what happened to r/golf user ubapook2 who made his way to Broken Tee Golf Course in Englewood, Colorado not knowing that he would soon be teeing off with two NBA champions in DeAndre Jordan and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. That's cool enough on its own, but it also led to this absolutely hilarious photo op.
“I signed up for a 10:10 tee time at Broken Tee golf course in Colorado as a single and got paired with these dudes for an 18! They were both very chill and we had some genuine fun, never posted here before but thought I would share. Very lucky day.”
Now, it doesn’t get much better than that, however, the photo of the three is a bit cruel. DeAndre Jordan is pushing seven feet and KCP is a measly 6′ 5″, so you’re going to have a tough time taking a flattering picture. Especially when our short king (only in this instance) is 5’9”.
The nonstop Reddit comments asking “Which one are you?” is unfortunately a good bit. Even with this height disparity, it seems like everyone had a solid day on the course, which is all that really matters. This fortuitous golfer even broke down his playing partners’ strengths and weaknesses for any future scouting reports.
“DJ was solid and I could tell he played a good bit. KCP struggled a bit with contact but when he connected his shots were on point. The course was barely open and was total winter conditions (greens frozen, muddy fairways, etc) so it was pretty tough going. I shot a true winter 97 and I’m assuming DJ was around 90.
“Interestingly DJ never hit a driver once just 3 wood off the tee. He had a mean draw with it and would roll plenty on those frozen fairways … It was a real long wood haha, I actually asked DJ and he told me he got fit recently and got all his shafts like +2.5 - +3 inches.”
That’s some good in-depth reporting. He even got a J.R. Smith joke in there, because of course, he did.
“I actually had my weed pen, I was hitting it next to DJ and said ‘Hey man sorry I always offer to share, but I’m assuming you guys can’t,’ DJ said ‘oh nah, you good.’ to which I replied “unless your name is JR Smith.” I hope that joke was funny in the least bit haha.”
