Genesis Invitational 2021 odds: Dustin Johnson is the heavy favorite in year’s strongest field to date

Similar to years past, many of golf’s stars are teeing it up in Los Angeles at the 2021 Genesis Invitational, making this the strongest field in golf so far this year. Tournament host Tiger Woods won’t play as he’s recovering from his back procedure, but 30 of the top 50 players in the world—including eight of the top 10—will be at Riviera Country Club this week.

Dustin Johnson, a past champion at Riviera, enters as the heavy favorite, which speaks to how he has separated himself from the rest of the world. In this elite field, to be below 6-1 odds at some books is an impressive feat. DJ has nine top-10s in 14 appearances at Riviera, including the victory in 2017 and runners-up in 2014 and 2015. Before his WD at Pebble Beach last week, DJ was pegged as a 4-1 favorite—the heaviest favorite we’ve seen on the PGA Tour in at least the past five years—so it’s no surprise to see his low number at Riviera, coming off a win in Saudi Arabia after his Masters win in November.

The rest of the field is loaded with the rest of the world’s best. Bryson DeChambeau’s 16-1 number is as high as we’ve seen since he won the U.S. Open in November. He finished T-5 at Riviera last year. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele … all players who have elite length off the tee whose games should translate to Riviera. That’s not to mention Patrick Cantlay (18-1), who contended at Pebble Beach, finished T-2 in La Quinta, Calif., and won at Sherwood in October just 35 miles away from Riviera. Daniel Berger, fresh off a win at Pebble Beach, has a juicy 28-1 number if you want to bet on him going back-to-back, and Jordan Spieth is at 33-1, fresh off back-to-back weeks of holding the 54-hole lead.

This is sure to be a fantastic week at one of golf’s most iconic venues. Here are the complete odds of every player teeing it up at Riviera Country Club.

On this week's episode of Golf Digest's betting podcast, “Be Right,” we had Staff Writer Daniel Rapaport join us. Rapaport was on-site at Pebble Beach last week and has a ton of insight on Riviera—he gives us players to watch this week at the Genesis Invitational. Please be sure to download the episode and give us a rating and a review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
