Hope you got your Labor Day barbeques in and were able to get outside for a few days because it’s time to seat yourself back in front of the TV for the return of the PGA Tour. After a two-week break following Rory McIlroy taking home the FedEx Cup trophy at East Lake, the tour begins a new season with new challengers starting at this week's Fortinet Championship.

Max Homa, a California native and former NCAA champ at Cal-Berkeley, returns to Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa, Calif., to defend his title and try to improve on a 2021-22 season in which he won twice and qualified for the Tour Championship for the first time in his career. Homa will be joined by a coterie of players who will be competing against him next week at Quail Hollow during the Presidents Cup. The International side is looking strong in Napa as Hideki Matsuyama, Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Cam Davis will be teeing off, as will U.S. assistant captain Webb Simpson.

The 2022-23 season's first tournament will also see plenty of rookies and Korn Ferry Tour prospects trying to get a jump in the FedEx Cup standings with only the top 70 players from the season-long points list earning spots in the Playoffs, down from the top 125 since the FedEx Cup's inception in 2007.

The winner at Silverado will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.44 million cut of the $8 million purse.
