Beers For Birdies

U.S. Open 2021: Corona is giving away a free six pack for every birdie made at Torrey Pines

Newsflash, Walter Cronkite: The 2021 U.S. Open returns to Torrey Pines this weekend. There will be plenty of Tiger retrospectives and Brooks vs. Bryson rubbernecking. There will also be beer. Lots and lots of beer. No, we’re not talking about Brooks offering cases of Michelob Ultra to any fan who drives their car into the TV tower as Bryson comes down the stretch on Sunday. We’re talking about everybody’s favorite cerveza, Corona, handing out a free six pack FOR EVERY BIRDIE made over the course of the championship.

In the immortal words of Mr. Diesel, you can have any brew you want . . . as long as it’s a Corona.

In order to make yourself eligible for the gratis suds, all you have to do is keep an eye on the official @coronaextrausa Twitter account. After every birdie made during tournament play Thursday-Sunday, Corona will send a tweet acknowledging that glorious little scorecard circle. All you have to do is reply to the tweet (or craft one of your own including the hashtags #birdiesforpremier and #sweepstakes) and voila, you’re officially in the running.

It’s probably worth noting, however, that this is the U.S. Open we’re talking about, a major purpose built to be the toughest test in all of golf. When Woods won back in 2008—the last time a U.S. Open was held on Torrey Pines’ South Course—he finished the tournament one-under par. Last week, we got our first look at the 2021 rough and it looks longer than Kyle Berkshire’s hair. All of which is to say, you might want to set your notifications, because birdies—and consequently beer—could be hard to come by this weekend.
