College senior says the beers are on him after rare hole-in-one feat, solidifies status as a great teammate

December 15, 2021

It seems pretty obvious that J.R. Smith is the best college golf teammate to have these days. The guy has connections, cool cars, and apparently can help with your school work after he revealed the 4.0 GPA he received in his first semester. But if you can't be on a team with the former NBA star, you could certainly do a lot worse than Justin Morgan.

The Appalachian State senior is one heckuva golfer as evidenced by his opening 65 on Tuesday at the CCNC Amateur. And it sounds like he's a giving man following that round, which included a hole-in-one.

"I guess I'm going to have to have to buy some beers tonight," Morgan said.

Talk about music to a college kids' ears. And yes, he's a senior, so it's legal.

Turns out, there's more to Morgan's ace on the par-3 third hole at the Country Club of North Carolina's Dogwood Course as well. He also did the same thing on the same hole in the first round last year.

"Today I worked on one shot at a time," Morgan said. "Sometimes I get worried about the outcome, but today I focused on my next shot."

We're guessing that meant something a little different after for his teammates—at least, the ones who are 21 (wink, wink).
