Rejoice! Charles Barkley is good at golf again, and this video with Bo Jackson proves it

May 05, 2021

Charles Barkley used to be good at golf. As unbelievable as that seems with all the viral videos of him being so bad at golf, it's true. We've been through this.

But it's still jarring to see him actually make a decent swing—even though we saw plenty of those in November when he teamed with Phil Mickelson to beat Steph Curry and Peyton Manning in The Match 3. And there have been other glimpses through the years like when he worked with Hank Haney on "The Haney Project." But then he'll show up at Lake Tahoe every summer and look like someone who just picked up a club for the first time.

That does not appear to be the case anymore.

On Wednesday, Barkley played in a pro-am ahead of the PGA Tour Champions Regions Tradition at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham. And, well, just watch this video in which he pipes a tee shot and then gets a big hug from Bo Jackson:

Bo knows how happy Chuck must be to be playing better finally. We all know.

Here's another video captured on Wednesday of Sir Charles impressing the crowd with a tee shot:

You love to see it. Specifically, you love to not see Chuck's signature hitch in the downswing. Of course, he's still not going to be winning any celebrity golf tournaments anytime soon. . .

Still, the overall improvement is impressive. And a follow-up tweet by Drew Carter of CBS' Birmingham affiliate reports Barkley says he's down to a single-digit(!) handicapper—thanks to working with coach Stan Utley for the past two years.

Congrats to Charles. And congrats to Stan. After pulling off this reclamation project, he should be able to charge students whatever he wants.
