British Open 2025: Shane Lowry's shocking NSFW message for … Royal Portrush?
Shane Lowry unleashing F-bomb rants during golf tournaments is certainly nothing new. He did it at this year's PGA Championship. He did it at last year's British Open. He, well, you get the point. But what happened on Friday was still a bit shocking from the Irishman.
Not because of what he said. But where he said it.
Lowry's latest tirade came on the 11th hole during the second round of the British Open at Royal Portrush after losing a tee shot left. "F--- off!" Lowry blurts out before adding, "F--- this place!"
Spicy! Have a look and listen. Well, unless you're a kid. In that case, earmuffs:
Again, not unusual for golfers to get frustrated, especially under major championship pressure. But Lowry saying that? At this place?! As in the place he won his only major at the 2019 Open? The place where he's treated as a local hero? The place where there's a freaking giant mural of him right down the street?!
Pretty wild. Not to mention, we're not sure how "this place" made the ball go way left. Oh, and just earlier in the round, this place gave him an insane bounce off an OB stake.
Anyway, it just shows that golfers will complain about absolutely anything if they hit a bad shot. Even a place that should be literally their favorite place on the planet.
UPDATE: OK, so maybe we shouldn't be too shocked here. Apparently, this is one of Shane's go-to phrases:
Amazing tweet there. Still, it's pretty funny Shane would say this at such a special place to him.

Is it the British Open or the Open Championship? The name of the final men’s major of the golf season is a subject of continued discussion. The event’s official name, as explained in this op-ed by former R&A chairman Ian Pattinson, is the Open Championship. But since many United States golf fans continue to refer to it as the British Open, and search news around the event accordingly, Golf Digest continues to utilize both names in its coverage.
