Verne Lundquist x Atlanta Falcons is the Masters week mash-up you didn’t know you needed

November 12, 2020

The Atlanta Falcons are not a very good football team right now. They’ve set NFL records for fourth-quarter futility. They became the first team this season to send their head coach packing. They continue to waste the prime of Julio Jones in what is fast becoming one of the most criminal football acts perpetrated since the Lions drove Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson into early retirement. But on Thursday they redeemed themselves for all of that (if not 28-3) with a Masters-themed mash-up that might just give you a case of the goosebumps.

That, of course, is the sweet, sweet pipes of Verne Lundquist calling Tiger Woods’ incredible chip-in on 16 at the 2005 Masters enroute to his fourth green jacket. The clever minds at the Falcons social media department, however, decided to superimpose it over footage of Olamide Zaccheaus’ spectacular 51-yard touchdown grab from Sunday, and the result is a perfect Masters week tonic for Falcons fans who had to watch them give up 21 4th-quarter points on Sunday to turn yet another laugher into a squeaker.

Conveniently the Falcons are on bye this weekend, so local sports junkies and CBS can focus their attention on what’s really important: MASTERS FREAKIN’ SUNDAY. But still, it’s a nice gesture from the Dirty Birds to acknowledge their neighbors up the road . . . even if said neighbors are already prepping that takedown notice.
