Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown reciting all 16 WRs drafted before him (plus their colleges) is a classic ‘Hard Knocks’ moment

August 17, 2022

Through just the two episodes, the Detroit Lions have more than justified their feature role in this year’s preseason edition of ‘Hard Knocks.’ There’s the Dan Campbell factor of course …

… and also the inspiring words of Jamaal Williams, who seems to have picked up his head coach’s penchant for impossibly macho crying.

We even saw number-two-overall draft pick Aidan Hutchinson rip a rousing rendition of “Billie Jean” that got the whole defensive unit fired up. This is true leadership, kiddos.

On Tuesday night, however, it was second-year wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s time to shine, reciting the name and university of all 16 wide receivers taken before him in the 2021 NFL Draft … in order.

This pettiness on a level rarely seen and it is absolutely glorious. Nevermind the fact that Ja’Marr Chase came within one drive of winning a Super Bowl on his first try or that Jaylen Waddle is the new NFL record holder for most receptions in a rookie campaign. St. Brown ain’t over that sh*t. He still thinks he should have been taken ahead of those guys and he’s willing to say it with the straightest of straight faces right into an HBO camera. Safe to say we know where he gets his confidence ...

In St. Brown’s defense, he did haul in 90 balls and five touchdowns in 2021 with Jared Goff at quarterback. Adjusted for Goff-cession, that puts him right up there with Chase, Waddle, and DeVonta Smith. Not bad for a guy who went 112th overall, even if he has spent more time studying the 2021 NFL Draft order than the Lions playbook.
