Thousands of words have already been devoted to the differences between the Masters we have come to know in April and the tournament being competed this week.
We know to expect no roars. We know sight lines are different without patrons lining fairways and greens. The course is softer, the rough higher.
But perhaps the most striking difference at Augusta National is that a course renowned for its explosions of color across the property now features more muted earth tones—purple, white and pink giving way to orange, yellow and brown.
To say it’s better or worse is like trying to rank pimento cheese versus egg salad. But it is different, significantly so in some spots, and to underscore the distinction, we’ve surfaced photos of certain angles taken by Golf Digest photographers in April 2019 and compared them to images of the same angles this week.
