It was this time last year that Koivun ripped off three straight top-11 finishes on the PGA Tour as an amateur (he added a fourth in a row later in the Fall at the Procore). Then he went back to college, won a second national title for Auburn and becoming just the fourth player ever to win the Haskins Award twice. After a T-23 at Shinnecock in the U.S. Open, Koivun turned pro ahead of the John Deere and was going off the odds board at sub-30-1 odds. He struggled at TPC Deere Run, but that did not deter the oddsmakers from making him the solo favorite at the opposite-field event this week, the ISCO Championship. 

Koivun is as low as 13-1 on the Caesars Sportsbook, and only as high as 16-1 at BetMGM, according to Oddschecker.com. Max Homa, a six-time tour winner, is the second favorite at 18-1. No pressure, Jackson!

Wondered, as in would the brand lose its edgy approach that took it from cult favorite to gotta-have it? Well, the company already has introduced compelling new models like the VZN.1i, but if you’re wondering about the status of its delightful quirkiness, look no further than its just-announced collaboration with the Uncrustables brand. The iconic PB&J snackwich from Smuckers that has become such a tour player-favorite that it’s now stocked at the Titleist Performance Institute will have its graphics built in to limited custom versions of L.A.B.’s most popular models, including the VZN.1i, DF3i and Oz.1i. That look involves a grape jelly-colored finish on top, a turquoise-hued stainless steel face insert and a swirled pattern on the bottom featuring the Uncrustables Snack Rat. There even are headcovers with the classic checkered tablecloth motif. Of course, the limited edition comes at a price, starting at $2,000 each.

If you've ever been to North Berwick, however, the concept becomes more tangible. As Golf Digest's Jamie Kennedy detailed, work has begun to protect the course against coastal erosion, which it is particularly vulnerable to given how much of the storied links are nestled along the shores of the Firth of Forth. I was there in October to visit my son, who was studying at St. Andrews, and we played to a steady gallery of residents who know North Berwick as more than just one of the best courses in the world, but possibly one of the greatest dog-walking beaches as well.

Our colleague Jamie Kennedy is one of our favorite people in golf, a guy whose curiosity and knowledge for the sport are matched only by his passion for it. He's the type you meet at a bar and are best friends with by the second round. The man can also play, as he proved at North Berwick on Tuesday night. Working with a set of hickories, Jamie made a hole-in-one albatross on the course's 270-yard closing hole. A moment like that, at one of the game's most sacred grounds, is destined only for someone special. Cheers to our boy Jamie!

On Saturday evening, England will face Norway in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. It's a match with huge implications for both the mighty (England) and the minnows (Norway), and Viktor Hovland is backing his beloved "Landslaget" with a big claim.

"I hope they lose and come crying out on Sunday morning" Hovland told reporters at the Genesis Scottish Open this week, "First tee we're doing a row if we beat England!"

Hovland, who was recently seen "rowing" with Norwegian fans following his victory at the Travelers Championship, enjoyed the opportunity to rile up English competitors like Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton. Though outnumbered at The Rennaissance Club, the Norwegian isn't entirely alone, because when it comes to the World Cup, no one—and we mean NO ONE—wants to see England lose more than the Scots.

In January Reed announced he would not be re-signing with LIV Golf in hopes of seeking reinstatement with the PGA Tour. Due to suspension, he is not eligible to return until after the regular season is finished. However, he can play in the fall events and has already secured his card for 2027 thanks to the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai. Speaking to reporters at the Scottish Open, Reed said he has received a “decent amount” of interest from the tour’s fall events, and plans on finalizing his schedule after the Open. The first event Reed could play in is the Biltmore Championship, beginning on Sept. 17 in Asheville, N.C.

The pantheon of American heroes welcomed a new member this Fourth of July weekend. There in those hallowed halls, talongside the likes of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, the men's 1980 Olympic ice hockey team and, of course, Rocky Balboa [ficitonal division], this golfer took his rightful place amongst legends with an ace even the world's most prolific hole-in-one havers could only dream of. Behold.

It doesn't get much better than a hole-in-one on the Fourth of July with literal boatloads of patriotic patrons watching on. The roar they produced as the ball disappeared into the cup put the galleries at Shinnecock last month to shame, and our new national mascot responded in kind, ripping his shirt off as he sprinted down the fairway to collect his keepsake. As far as ways to celebrate America's 250th birthday go, this sure beats cake, candles and getting eviscerated by the Belgians.

And it's one amateur golfers should use more.

A study at the World Scientific Congress of Golf found that amateurs across the board chip better with their hybrid than with their wedge. So, when there's nothing but fairway between you and the hole itself, and it's relatively flat, take a hybrid (or similar club) and make a few basic adjustments:

• Grip down on the club
• Stand closer
• Use your putting grip
• Make a putting stroke

It'll give the ball enough ball speed to trundle through the longer grass, then roll like a putt once it gets on the smoother surface.

The network announced Wednesday that Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will be competing under the lights in a made-for-TV matchup in mid-December at Trump Jupiter in Florida. Last year Scheffler and McIlroy led four-man teams in timed and strategy focused challenges with events like a 14-club challenge and a relay race. Aside from Golf Channel the event will be broadcast on USA Network.

The 28-year-old Englishman made history on Wednesday when he won the 5th U.S Adaptive Open at Woodmont Country Club, making him the first golfer in USGA history to win four straight titles. (Tiger Woods three-peated in both the U.S. Junior and U.S. Amateur, and Hollis Stacy captured three straight U.S. Girls’ Juniors.)

It was how Popert finished it off that should be remembered. On the 6,421-yard South Course, the man born with cerebral palsy fired in six birdies on the front nine for an opening 30 (Golf Channel commentators said he made more than 100 feet of putts) and ultimately shot nine-under 63. Popert’s 54-hole total of 18 under claimed the overall men’s division prize by six shots over Simon Seungmin Lee, who won the inaugural Adaptive Open.

On the women’s side, Indiana’s Kim Moore, who wears a below-the-knee prosthetic on her right leg, captured her third straight Adaptive Open title, finishing at 12 over to prevail by six shots.

That’s come and gone, although there is a new face on her bag at this week’s Amundi Evian Championship: her husband Jun Chung. In a social media post, Chung needled Ko that he’s using vacation time to work this week, to which Ko coyly replied, “You should be honored to caddie for a Hall of Famer.”  Ko won the title at Evian in 2015 and has seven top-10s in 12 starts in the event, so it’s safe to say she feels comfortable with the course. Ko also joked about the fact that Chung is not getting paid for his help this week. “It’s like, what’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine.”

The two-time reigning Masters champ is one of the early leaders at the Genesis Scottish Open on the strength of five birdies and an eagle, but it was a par save on his final hole at the Renaissance Club that caught our attention more than anything. Finishing on the par-3 ninth, McIlroy found a greenside bunker and then hit his jaw-dropping shot from the sand:

"Oh, stop it!" the announcer says. Great shot. Great reaction. This Rory guy has some talent, huh? 

Grace Kim's amazing chip shot last year which eventually led to her winning the Evian Championship in a playoff. The Aussie was in a playoff with Jeeno Thitikul and dunked her second shot into the creek right of the 18th green. She dropped and holed the pitch shot for birdie to tie the hole then won it with an eagle the second time around. Well, one LPGA star holed the shot when she tried and ... she did so by hitting it left-handed. Yes, Hannah Green, who has won twice on tour this year, walked up to the ball standing opposite of the way she usually does and made it. You can see by the video that everyone standing there had quite a chuckle.

Pablo Larrazabal, who has been in a playing funk, posted a picture on Instagram of a note left in his locker from Rai, featuring a photo of Larrazabal holding a trophy. “The guy in these pictures is who you are and he is much closer to the present you than you think," Rai wrote. After Larrazabal posted his appreciation on social media, the DP World Tour tracked Rai down. "I first got on Tour in 2018 and Pablo was always very welcoming to me," Rai explained. "We’ve been paired together a little bit more in recent years, and we’ve got to know each other a little bit more. It just felt like the right thing to do." Watch the rest of the video below.

On Thursday, he was one of the first four to earn spots on the 10-member U.S. Walker Cup team set to compete in September at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland. Stout, a rising senior at Oklahoma State, returns from last year’s American squad that pulled out victory over Great Britain & Ireland at Cypress Point. So does his OSU teammate Ethan Fang, who also qualified on Thursday. The other two landing on the 2026 team are standout Tyler Watts, an automatic qualifier based of his WAGR ranking, and fellow standout junior Miles Russell, picked by the USGA Team Selection committee. That committee is expected to name additional players ahead of next month’s U.S. Amateur, with the winner there and the winner of the McCormack Medal automatically making the team if they’re Americans.

The LIV Golf star is playing in the Genesis Scottish Open, which is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, meaning he has the chance to be the first member of LIV Golf to win a tour event. He is allowed to play at the Renaissance Club because he holds DP World Tour membership and has paid all appropriate fines to keep him in good standing. On Thursday during the first round in Scotland he is not in good standing on the leaderboard after making five bogeys and shooting three-over 73. At one point he was five over on the day and only beating three players, but birdies on 15 and 16 helped the round and he ended tied for 137th place, eight shots off the lead held by five men, one of them named Rory McIlroy. Rahm's last start was a missed cut at the U.S. Open.

Cantlay has quietly collected eight top 20s in 2026, and we say quietly because it hasn't really felt like he's ever been a factor in any of those tournaments. That could be because his putter, normally a weapon, has been a weakness this year. It was not on Thursday at the Scottish Open, where he gained nearly 2.5 strokes with the flat stick. Apparently, it's a different putter than the one he's been using, and he put it in play specifically for these next two weeks. 

"I have a putter that's a little heavier," he said after a first-round 65. "The greens are slow this week, and they will be slow next week, as well. Just helps me get the ball in the hole." 

He did a great job of that on Thursday at the Renaissance Club, where the eight-time tour winner is currently tied for first with Rory McIlroy, Bernd Wiesberger and Tom Kim. Cantlay is searching for his first win in nearly four years. 

Charley Hull was two-over through six holes during her opening round at the Amundi Evian Championship on Thursday. Then something changed. Hull went seven-under the rest of the way, including a birdie-birdie-par-eagle finish that put the World No. 5 firmly in the mix for her first major. So what did Hull credit for her remarkable turnaround? Ice cream of course.

That was scene after Hull's ridiculous approach on the par-5 15th hole which sparked her four-under finish. Moments before, cameras caught her stopping for an ice cream cone in the summer heat. In truth, the cone was for her caddie Adam Woodward, but after the round, she credited the sweet treat for her reversal of fortunes.

"I felt quite good, I think it was the ice cream my caddie had on the 15th hole," Hull explained. "It's not shy kids don't get sweets, it's shy caddies don't get ice cream."
