Why We Like It
- The familiar Fastback mid-mallet will appeal to players looking to transition from blades to mallets.
- The carbon-steel insert, fused to the milled stainless-steel body with an aerospace-level vibration-damping adhesive, provides a tour-preferred responsive feel.
- Although carbon steel typically degrades or corrodes over time, this insert uses a chemical process to protect the steel, enhance hardness and preserve feel.
- The face insert features a chain-link-style milling pattern developed with tour-player input to produce a softer feel and consistent speed off the face.
- As has been the case for two decades, the body is milled from 303 stainless steel.
- The clamshell-shaped mallet comes in a single-bend shaft or slant-neck hosel.
- A “Long” version counterbalanced with heavier 25-gram tungsten sole weights and a 17-inch, 135-gram grip also is available.
- Top 5 in Performance, low- and middle-handicaps
- Models: Fastback 1, Fastback 1.5. Head weights: 345, 355, 365 grams. Lengths: 33-35 inches. Loft: 3.5 degrees

I like how the alignment aid goes right into the face so it's easy to aim. At impact, I could feel a difference depending on the strike. When well-struck, the ball pinged off the face and rolled quickly. On mis-hits, it was more of a dull thud and slow roll.

Didn't miss the typical big alignment aid. Setting the putter was simple. Weighting was great, especially for longer putts. No extra effort required. Plenty of finesse on short putts, too.

I really like the contrasting colors and the open slot in the head. Gave me a sense of the face being square. Face insert was very soft and put a ground-hugging roll on the ball. So soft that it took a little work to get my speed sorted.

I appreciate the compact head size and the weight balance. Very refined feel off the face. The perimeter weighting helped mitigate off-center hits. A clean click at impact, firm but not harsh. Ball always rolled exactly where I expected.

I love putting with this club. It's effortless. Rock your shoulders, and the ball is rolling right to the cup. I didn't like the stripe on the back. It moved my focus off the ball.

Its best quality is how square it sits at address. Just set it down and put your hands on the grip. Nice and heavy, stable through the hit. A very, very soft feel, even felt a little dead on off-center hits, but the ball kept rolling.

I really like the milling on top, like mini alignment aids. Beautiful texture and color. Soft feel on short putts. On really long ones, it did have some click to it.

Not amazing but not boring, either. A soft, balanced impact sound. Pretty easy to line up. The head was stable so very little twisting. Decent pop and roll, but I wasn't wowed.

Simple alignment system, framed the ball well. A lot more heft toward the front of the putterhead, which made my stroke feel balanced. Very reliable roll. Never a surprise.

Produced the purest possible roll. Ball didn't hop at all. Incredible with lag putting, and I couldn't miss inside 10 feet. Pick the right line and put a decent stroke on it, and the ball is going in. Absolute money club on firm, fast greens.

So intuitive. It felt like an extension of my arms. Putts rolled immediately off the face and on the intended line, no matter the distance. A perfect, buttery feel off the face with a muted tap to match. The perfect weight to keep the face square.

Understated mallet with some nice tech features. Pretty heavy but with a soft feel. Ball seemed to sink into the face at impact. Great transitional putter if you're leaving blades.

Looks well-crafted, well-built. Ball was active off the face, like a magnet was pulling it. Short putts were easy to line up and knock right in. Lag putts were intuitive because the balance of the club helped me dial in my stroke.

Compact, simple head design. The three dots helped me visualize the line. Ball came off soft at impact and didn't require much hit, which was surprising given the smaller head size. Distance control on long putts came easy.

Wish it were a little less busy on top, but the classic shape isn't lost. The milled bumpers make it look like a blade. Feedback through the handle and the pronounced sound were both very pleasing. The ball seemed like it stayed on a string from your start line.

Nice heft and weight to the head so it required little work to get the ball to the hole. Short putts were simple—straight back, straight forward. Loved the feel off the face. Not overly cushioned and helped promote a predictable roll.

Compact head but still nice and heavy. The weight helped it swing naturally. Sound and feel were soft but responsive. On short putts, you can set the face and just swing. For longer putts, the weight provides plenty of force.

The “V” reflects the versatility of a lineup that allows multiple-mallet options to attach to the two most popular shaft/neck options via a typical torque wrench.
Two hosel options include the short slant or short plumber.
Putters are milled from 303 stainless steel in the face with a 6061-aircraft-aluminum body.

A reverse plumber’s-neck hosel centers the putter’s balance point between the shaft and head to make it easier for the face to stay square to the path of the stroke.
The benefit of the hosel is that unlike other designs that reduce or eliminate torsional resistance, this version does not force the hands well forward with an angled shaft. The idea is that because the shaft is aligned with the head’s center of mass, the putter face stays square to the path of the stroke to eliminate unreliable hand action.
Models include the extremely stable Z1, which features two 85-gram heel and toe weights in the front sole of the milled-aircraft-aluminum head.

L.A.B. Golf is known for distinctive shapes that pursue balanced weighting to keep the face square, but this lineup represents the company’s most conventional look yet.
With input from Adam Scott, the traditional half-moon mallets feature the all-aluminum milled Oz.1 and the Oz.1i, which has a milled stainless-steel face insert.
Both models incorporate the sole weighting and 2-degree shaft lean that align the shaft with the putter’s center of mass so that the head remains square to the lie angle for consistent, on-target impacts.

The face is milled from forged 1025 steel, the same steel used in the company’s irons. The body is 7075 aluminum.
Heavy heel and toe sole weights, which join the front piece to the back, add mallet-level stability and keep the center of gravity forward, reminiscent of a blade.

The Ai-One comes in an array of traditional and non-traditional shapes, including the iconic 2-Ball and popular Jailbird and even one that combines the two. The secret, though, is the asymmetrical thickness pattern on the face.
Designers used AI and machine learning to explore more than 2,000 design versions to develop the face insert’s asymmetrical thickness pattern to improve off-center speed and roll for greater consistency.
The urethane coating over the soft-aluminum face insert matches that of the company’s highly favored White Hot material for soft feel.

By aligning the shaft and a red dot on the heel side of the flange, the golfer knows the putter face is not only aligned properly but the sole is flat on the ground to increase the opportunity for solid contact.
Copper weights on the heel, toe and sole (six on the HTx and four on the MDx) balance the putter’s overall head weight and center of gravity to help the face stay square to the plane of the putting stroke.
