Why We Like It
- Building on the most popular mallet putter in the game, this new center-shafted model embraces the zero-torque putter trend by matching elements of the Spider’s aim, alignment and forgiveness features with weighting designed to reduce the degree your hands have to manipulate the face angle during the stroke.
- A massive amount of weight has been repositioned forward in the head to better line up the position of the shaft axis to the head’s center of gravity.
- The front of the putter is largely heavy dense steel, and the back is lightweight aluminum. In addition, heavy toe and heel weights in the sole push weight forward and to the perimeter for extra stability.
- A wider head size and wraparound frame increase that weighting for stability.
- A flatter sole, compared to the standard model’s 1-degree draft angle, enables the putter to set up square more naturally and prevent the sole from catching the turf.
- The face uses the familiar TaylorMade grooved insert made of 80 percent Surlyn polymer and 20 percent aluminum flakes. Those grooves angle at 45 degrees, and the insert’s aluminum beams flex freely at impact to control spin and initial launch to get putts rolling quicker with less skid.

Hot List testers noted a boxy, center-shaft, zero-torque design that delivers exceptional stability, a straight-back/straight-through roll and tight dispersion — especially strong on lag and long putts. The muted, soft face provides a crisp transfer of energy and consistent distance control; counterbalanced weighting gives a steady, confidence-inspiring stroke and forgiving off-center performance. One drawback: a few found the very soft, quiet face reduced tactile feedback and made lateral target control harder.
Hot List testers noted a very soft, consistent face that delivers tight dispersion, controlled distance even when throttled up, and a smooth, end-over-end roll that inspires confidence to start putts on line. Center shaft and counterbalanced weighting give exceptional stability and near-zero torque; it sits square and favors a straight-back, straight-through stroke. Distinctive two-tone nickel front flange with matte-black rear and diagonal alignment lines divide opinion visually, but performance — especially on long putts — stands out. One drawback: the shaft sits behind the alignment line, making contact placement tricky.
Hot List panelists observed a center‑shaft, zero‑torque design that simplifies alignment and keeps the head true through the stroke. Testers praised a crisp, buttery transfer and muted, silky feel, reporting pure, consistent roll (even on 25‑footers), forgiving off‑center performance, and easy speed/distance control. The boxy head promotes a straight‑back/straight‑through stroke and many liked the looks. One tester did note it felt too soft/quiet and offered limited feedback.
Hot List panelists observed a plush, soft face with a satisfying click and instant feedback that produces a steady, end‑over‑end roll and excellent distance control—especially for lag putts. The slightly longer heel‑to‑toe, forward weighting, zero‑torque and counterbalance design deliver stability and make it easy to keep the head square through the stroke. One drawback: the busy, boxy head styling can be distracting at address.
