Why We Like It
- A five-step forging process delivers the feel better players crave.
- Metal-injection-molding weights placed in the toe create enhanced workability and control.
- The center of gravity is lower in the long irons to boost launch and higher in the short irons to control trajectory on shots from pin-seeking range.
- The sole design has a pre-worn leading edge to enter the turf with ease, and the trailing edge relief makes exiting the turf the golf equivalent of being in a getaway car.
- Thinner toplines and longer blade lengths than the previous Apex CB are consistent with the Apex Pro model to make blending sets seamless.
- The backweight can be adjusted by a clubfitter to dial in the correct swingweight.
- Top 5 in Performance, low-handicaps.
- SPECS: 7-iron: 34 degrees; PW: 46 degrees

It had that really nice forgiving feel. I hit a couple off the toe, couple off the heel, and it felt like it was center every time. Mis-hits felt pure.

It's a very macho-looking design. The wrench weight in the back makes it look like it came straight out of the workshop, in a good way. It's a nice blend of everything. Forgiving but workable. It moves through the turf nicely, it's not digging or bouncing.

The small topline and head are not as long as a blade and that's a nice look for me. As far as the acoustics, they weren't minimal but not unpleasant in any way. The workability was easy with a touch of a fade-bias and they never felt too spinny on mis-hits.

I like the clean lines on it. It sets up perfectly and has that thin, small head, which I enjoy. There was a firmness to the feel, like you're hitting a rock in a water. It's decent, but not that great flushed sound. If you get it off the toe, it's a muted sound. It tells you you suck right away. When you get it, it's great. The ball flights nicely. It's very workable.

Really good-looking. More of a classic players iron shape. Not much offset. Looks like you can flight the ball in different directions and trajectories when setting up at address. You don't get those shots that are like shot out of a cannon, but you gain in consistency. For distance control, that's worth it for better players.

The head looks smaller, which can be intimidating, but for a good player, that's great. It's less bulky, which takes away all the fluff. My performance was better with the smaller head. I like the screws on the back of the face. It's a very futuristic look. It looks like they are ready to get to work. The club was very forgiving. I could hit it however I wanted and it worked out. Definitely would put them in the bag.

It's a nice, traditional look. Comforting proportions of the head. The sole design looks helpful. I did get some forgiveness directionally, but ball speed suffered on mis-hits.

Nothing stood out, but it did everything as I hoped. Ball speed was pretty consistent, medium launch was consistent and the ball never ballooned. Distance was good, not great. This is a practical iron.

A really petite-looking topline and nice details make it pleasing to look at. It framed the ball well and was very workable in all directions. You can hit all the shots. Seemed to lack in distance, though.

I love the clean sharp look of this club and even though it's a cavity back, it's not a cavity back of the old where you could see the back of the head when you set it down. It performs like players club even though it's a cavity back. Overall, it's one of those clubs you could just pull off the shelf.

When the light hits the clubface at a certain angle, the edges of the grooves shine up and frame the clubhead very nicely. It's quite unique. I'm not sure if they did it on purpose. The lofts seem a little weaker, so they were lacking distance off the face. If you're a good player who hits it long, you'd probably like them, but it might not be the best option for the average player because they're not too long and they're quite small.

You can feel the ball compress on the face. It doesn't have a hard clankiness. It has a nice rounded topline with softer edges. They felt friendly and moved through the turf nicely—no sticking or catchiness.

Thought the performance was exceptional for this class. It was upper edge for distance of ones I've hit. Felt good through the swing. This one made sense in looks and how it performed. Pretty pure overall.

I like the softness and launch. The wedge felt workable and on the medium side of weight. On the longer clubs, the forgiveness was not as much as I expected.

Wayne

A little less forgiving, but when I hit it in the center, it felt good. Off-center just didn't seem to work. I had more performance lost than others. It's not going to disappoint if you can consistently find the center.

It was the easiest to hit of any of the players clubs. I wanted to call it "Soft Focus," because it made me look good, which is hard to do. Straight down the middle.

The hollow-body construction and a thinner, more flexible cupface (in which the face wraps around part of the sole and topline) on the 3- through 5-iron provide more ball speed and a higher launch to enhance distance.
The remaining irons have a 1025 forged-carbon-steel face insert designed for precision, accuracy and repeatability in the clubs where distance isn’t as crucial.
The company’s urethane microspheres within the body of the long irons control vibration, enhance feel and allow the face to flex for maximum distance.

A hollow-body construction with a forged, high-strength steel face insert produces plenty of distance sizzle.

The single-piece forged cavity-back is more compact than the P·770.
Cavities in the sole are milled out, allowing for tungsten (up to 11 grams) and a slug of lightweight metal-matrix composite to be inserted to lower the center of gravity.
The metal-matrix composite is one-fifth the density of the surrounding steel. This allows for more perimeter weighting and ultimately forgiveness.
