“Hermitage Country Club’s Sabot course is an Ed Ault design from the early 70s that was renovated by Keith Foster in 2000. It is a beautiful course that winds through eastern Virginia pines and around numerous streams and ponds. The course is easily walkable, and there is just enough elevation change to provide interest without heart palpitations. Each nine is an out and back loop, and there is water on most of the holes. Ironically, the holes at the beginning of the back nine, which have fewer water hazards, are the real meat of the course. There is a good mix of short and long holes, and the greens have enough movement to provide interest without having overly dramatic slopes. Sabot is the kind of course that rewards well-executed shots without harshly punishing mishits, assuming you stay dry. The holes are more strategic than penal. You could play here every day without getting bored, as the course has just the right mix of challenge and forgiveness."

“Hermitage CC is located just east of Richmond. The Sabot course has nice elevation changes and water comes in play frequently. The bermuda greens were relatively firm despite recent rains and they rolled true. The bermuda fairways were pristine. The course starts out with a reachable DLR Par 5 with good R/R as the 2nd shot must carry water. The 4 Par 3s range in distance from 174 yds to 211. Two of the 4 holes require carry over water. The 450 yd Par 4 5th has woods right and water left and a creek guards the front of the green. In addition, the narrow green slopes hard back to front. It's just a great hole. Another very solid hole is the DLR Par 5 8th. The 2nd shot allows you to go for green or cut off as much distance as you dare - great risk/reward. While the back 9 has many good holes, the Par 4 18th requires a straight tee shot with water on the right and a bunker complex left. The 2nd shot must carry water. A really good finishing hole."
