Overview
One of the most scenic courses in the southwest, Sand Hollow’s Championship course has several holes that play on the edge of jagged cliffs: three of them made the Golf Digest America's 100 Greatest Holes ranking. The front nine is a relatively straightforward desert layout with well-placed bunkers. The back side features more elevation change as golfers play along a towering ridgeline, which falls off dramatically into a red rock canyon on the left. For the views alone—not to mention the strategic design—this is a must-play in southern Utah.

“This course is a tale of 2 nines. The front nine is relatively flat with flat greens which can be difficult to see from the fairways. Back nine however is a different story. 10 is a strong and 11 good par 3. But 12 is where the fun starts on the back. 12, 13 and 14 are cut along the cliffs. The back nine has a lot of variation and beautiful views. Definitely a fun course to play."

“Sand Hollow is truly a “tale of two cities.” The two nines could not be more different with the back nine possessing some of the most scenic and dramatic holes found anywhere in the country. From an elevated clubhouse set against the sandstone rocks ubiquitous to that area, the front nine goes out and back over gentle terrain accented by the sandstone rocks with green complexes mostly undramatic. However, it all changes on the back nine. Starting with the par 3, eleventh hole, the views of the Pine Valley mountains that continue through the 15th hole are not only stunning but add to the aesthetics, character and enjoyment of the round. But the fun only begins there. The par 4, twelfth starts the march of holes set against the sandstone rocks with cliffs that drop up to 300 feet just off the fairways. The drama continues with the 13th, 14th and climaxing with the par 3, fifteenth with the tee boxes set into the sandstone, a shot requiring a carry over a deep ravine and a green that is nestled into the sandstone that sits on the edge of a cliff. The McKenzie style high lip bunkering is prominent throughout the round but provides a unique character with the sand being red which comes from the natural ground of the sandstone area. Many consider Sand Hallow the best golf course in Utah. Black Desert and some of the Park City courses may also lay claim to that distinction but there is no question that Sand Hollow offers an experience and dramatic holes that none of the others can provide."

“It's kind of difficult to describe the differences in the nines without sounding negative, but they are incredibly different, yet still fit together amazing. The front 9 traverses some pretty boring, flat terrain, but with giant red rock outcroppings scattered. It's great, strategic golf with interesting green contours. The back 9 is just banger after banger of golf hole. Holes 11 through 15 are out on the edge of huge cliff. They're less strategic and more demanding, but incredible golf holes. The way the 9s work together are really impressive. Favorite holes: #1, #2, #5, #6, #11, #12!, #13!, #15! Least favorite: #9, #18"

“Sand Hollow is an admirable attempt to route a series of holes through visually exciting hillside terrain. The balance of the holes while on flatter land are still enjoyable to play with a good balance of short and longer holes. The backdrop of mountains and desert scapes add significantly to the golf experience. The tees and blue grass fairways were not in good condition on the date played with patch bare areas. The bent grass greens are large, with interesting and challenging undulation. The greens were pocked marked from heavy play and the surfaces rolled well but not true."
