Overview
One of Texas' best golf resorts is the Omni Barton Creek, located just 25 minutes outside of Austin. The resort features four 18-hole designs, and the highest-ranked layout is the Fazio Canyons design, a former Golf Digest America's 100 Greatest Public winner. This signature Tom Fazio design, which offers scenic views of Austin’s Hill Country, recently underwent an extensive renovation.

“One of four courses at the upscale Omni Barton Creek Resort, the Fazio Canyons course was designed in 1999 by Tom Fazio. Although technically public to resort guests only, Barton Creek has members and feels quite private with one of the best practice facilities I've seen. The course winds up and down surprisingly hilly terrain for Texas and features dramatic views of the surrounding hill country and gorgeous houses. Conditioning is excellent and the course is quite challenging, stretching to over 7400 yards with plenty of elevation change and danger for those who stray off-line. While the course features many strong holes, I preferred the back 9 with especially memorable holes at 10, 14, and 18. After playing Fazio Canyons, I was somewhat surprised to see this not listed in our top 100 public courses. It is certainly among the best public courses in Texas and well-worth a play if given the option."

“The more challenging course at Barton Creek, the Canyons course is a testament to hill country vistas and challenging golf. With some diabolical pin positions, the player needs to have some course knowledge if score over fun is the goal. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the challenge of this 7000+ yard gem that will make you yearn for more golf, more Texas brisket and cool ranch water. The final 5 holes can easily blow up an unblemished scorecard with 2 medium length but challenging par 5s, 2 long par 4s and a long par 3. Not a true drivable par 4 make this a harder course than some of the others at the resort, and all par 5s are over 550+ so take advantage of the downwind/downhill opportunities."

“A fun and challenging course for a lower handicapper. Many holes have potential for lost balls left and right, so a more novice golfer may not find this fun. Beautiful scenery which is relatively remote feeling, considering it is not far from the hustle and bustle of Austin. Great conditioning!"

“Well balanced and fun. Better get the gettable holes cause the course has some holes with bite."

“Located 25 mins southwest of downtown Austin, this Tom Fazio design opened for play in 1999. The best of the four Barton Creek courses with the Fazio Foothills being a close second. Great, friendly staff and a fun challenging course with lots of elevation changes and tricky approach shots"

“Barton Creek Canyons a very fun golf course in a lovely setting in the Texas Hill Country outside Austin. The greens are larger with more interesting contours than those at the adjacent Foothills course. The course is generally quite open, but could be even more so; there are a few spots where trees encroach on what could be greater angles."

“Most scenic of the Barton Creek courses. Fazio used the Hills of Austin to create probably the best of the Barton Creek Resort. A must play if visiting Austin. Fairways were firm and fast, greens rolled true."
