Overview
Part of Crosswater was reportedly built in the meadow where John Wayne, as Rooster Cogburn, filmed his climactic charge with guns blazing in the 1969 film, True Grit. The Bob Cupp design is far more subtle than a Wayne western, with low-profile greens edged by graceful chipping areas and fairways intersected repeatedly by the Big and Little Dechutes rivers. Crosswater was Golf Digest's Best New Resort Course of 1995.

“A beautiful and serene environment are the setting for the Crosswater course, that, without the mountains, could as well be on the backwaters of South Carolina. While there are river crossing and/or back waters on many if not most holes, it is actually not as much in play for an intermediate to low handicapper, as many times it's right off of the tee, or right in front of the green, and can be easily navigated. Green speeds were comfortable to slightly slow. A good amount of shot options, e.g. number 4 which is a short par 4, around 360 yards. One could lay back considerably off of the tee, because if she hit a normal drive, the right half of the fairway is blocked by large pine trees. Green complex has wetlands on the left. A great risk reward hole is the par 5 #16, which challenges a very big hitter to carry the wetlands, and if successful, the green is easily reachable in two. However, one can go straight off of the tee, and play it as a three shotter."

“This semi private course is open to members and resort guests only. It's located 45 min south of Redmond Airport-Roberts Field in Sunriver, Oregon. Designed by Robert E. Cupp and opened in 1995. Generous fairways, several forced carries, but not long. All holes , but two of them have water or wetlands in play."

“Aptly named for the course crosses water several times and from different angles. Great views of the snow capped mountains."

“Crosswater is a 2nd shot golf course. For the most part the fairways are wide and forgiving so there several ways to go at the holes. You can mis hit most drives and not get penalized severely, although as the course is named, you will cross water several times. The greens are very good but don't break as much as you think. Tendency is to over read the breaks and the greens are fast, but hold your shots."

“Challenging and enjoyable for better golfers, but the higher handicappers will have some difficulties with forced carries and routing options on several holes."

“For a course in the flat marshes of the meandering Little Deshutes River, it is a surprisely good course. Good shot values, and interesting but fair greens complexes. Views are inspiring. And the high central Oregon desert in general is a great place to play golf and Crosswater is one of the highlights of the area."

“A beautiful course with some great holes. Crosses the Little Deschutes river several times. Great mountain views. The course has a great deal of design variety and several holes are striking. I've seen eagles, deer and otters during play. The log clubhouse is small but classy. Almost 5000 feet in altitude so the ball goes 10 percent farther. My favorite course in central Oregon."
