Overview
Part of Crosswater was reportedly built in the meadow where John Wayne, as Rooster Cogburn, filmed his climactic charge with guns blazing in the 1969 film, True Grit. The Bob Cupp design is far more subtle than a Wayne Western, with low-profile greens edged by graceful chipping areas and fairways intersected repeatedly by the Big and Little Deschutes rivers. Crosswater was Golf Digest's Best New Resort Course of 1995.

“Wonderful mix of the meadows and the mountain views and the trees and water (and stream multiple times) coming into play. I really specifically thought holes 6, 12 and 18 were all great golf holes mixed in the rest of really good golf holes. Conditioning is top notch for a public course. Bunkers in wonderful shape. A must play"

“Was ranked top 100 at one point for good reason. Beautiful aesthetics, challenging and a great collection of holes. Definitely among the best courses in OR. Was in amazing condition when I played it."

“The routing is really peaceful with lots of space between holes, and the river plays a big role visually and strategically. You get some beautiful moments with the mountains in the backdrop and the river meandering near greens and fairways. It’s not one of those courses that hits you over the head with drama, but the variety sneaks up on you. There are some really strong par 4s and a couple of good scoring chances mixed in. It’s definitely long, especially with any wind, and it helps to be in the right spots off the tee. I wouldn’t call it flashy, but it’s solid all around, and a great track."

“This Bob Cupp and John Fought designed layout was opened in the mid-1990s at the Sunriver Resort outside of Bend, Oregon. This wetlands course is located in the midst of the Deschutes and LIttle Deschusetes Rivers. Water criss-crosses the golf course on numerous holes and is surrounded by extensive marshlands. The course is within three mountain ranges including Mount Bachelor, 3 Sisters and Broken Top. The course is setup for all levels of play with seven different tee box combinations. The Crosswater tee box is over 7600 yards. Shots off the tee box are towards fairly generous fairways with fairway bunkers coming into play on some of the holes. There is a premium to keeping your ball in the fairway as balls in the marshland are either difficult to find and if found, difficult to advance very far. While the course is relatively flat, approaches are to somewhat elevated greens. The greens are moderate in size but play more difficult due to the shape and angle of approach. The greens are slightly undulating with modest breaks leaving very few straight putts. Overall, Crosswater sits amongst a beautiful landscape providing wonderful views of the two rivers and three mountain ranges. Crosswater gives all levels of golfers a great opportunity to test their golfing skills on a course that has numerous challenges but provides an enjoyable round of golf."

“A beautiful and serene environment are the setting for the Crosswater course, that, without the mountains, could as well be on the backwaters of South Carolina. While there are river crossing and/or back waters on many if not most holes, it is actually not as much in play for an intermediate to low handicapper, as many times it's right off of the tee, or right in front of the green, and can be easily navigated. Green speeds were comfortable to slightly slow. A good amount of shot options, e.g. number 4 which is a short par 4, around 360 yards. One could lay back considerably off of the tee, because if she hit a normal drive, the right half of the fairway is blocked by large pine trees. Green complex has wetlands on the left. A great risk reward hole is the par 5 #16, which challenges a very big hitter to carry the wetlands, and if successful, the green is easily reachable in two. However, one can go straight off of the tee, and play it as a three shotter."

“This semi private course is open to members and resort guests only. It's located 45 min south of Redmond Airport-Roberts Field in Sunriver, Oregon. Designed by Robert E. Cupp and opened in 1995. Generous fairways, several forced carries, but not long. All holes , but two of them have water or wetlands in play."

“Aptly named for the course crosses water several times and from different angles. Great views of the snow capped mountains."

“Crosswater is a 2nd shot golf course. For the most part the fairways are wide and forgiving so there several ways to go at the holes. You can mis hit most drives and not get penalized severely, although as the course is named, you will cross water several times. The greens are very good but don't break as much as you think. Tendency is to over read the breaks and the greens are fast, but hold your shots."
