Overview
Hackensack is an incredibly enjoyable Charles Banks design that incorporates several template holes as well as original ones to create a great golf course in North Jersey. The course includes a Redan (12th), Biarritz (3rd) and one of the best punchbowls in Banks’ portfolio at the 16th. Over the past few years, the club has embarked on a massive renovation overseen by Steve Weisser and Rees Jones with the goal of restoring most of the course and adding a few new ones, like the 150-yard fairway bunker at the 11th, which sits nearly eight feet deep. In addition the club has removed many trees, opening up the property and allowing golfers to see much more of the property.

“Hackensack is a fun Charles Banks course in northern New Jersey that effectively utilizes several template holes throughout the course. While the template holes are fantastic, highlighted by the wonderful Redan (12th), Biarritz (3rd) and Punch Bowl (16th), it is the non-template holes that really make up the strength of the course. The club embarked on a massive renovation in the last few years and the tree removal has opened the property to highlight the terrific vistas. The condition of the course was fantastic, and the variation of the holes was wonderful."

“This is a very private course but if one gets a chance to play it, the treat will be playing many classic style holes and on a well conditioned course with speedy greens."

“I forgot how much fun Hackensack is. You have a lot of those template holes on the same track which make for an enjoyable experience: a long Biarritz, the redan, the punchbowl. The rest of the course seems like it has variety when playing but when I look back at my notes I realized I was hitting similar clubs throughout the day. Playing from the tips it was a hair over 7,000 yards which meant, with zero roll out, long approaches all day long. I suspect that normally there is more roll and we had some rain this week - but almost every tee shot landed close to its pitch mark. The conditioning otherwise was spectacular - great tee areas that are well kept - though I suspect that far back they don't get much traffic. Greens rolled true and were very receptive but I'd have appreciated more ground movement especially on the redan (ball rolled a foot). I do recall playing here in the past and having more rollouts. Overall it's a great place to play, has a decent variety, is well kept and has a character which is very good."

“One of the best and most under the radar courses in a very good golf region, Hackensack is a private course designed by Seth Raynor and Charles Banks. As expected there are some really awesome templates here such as the Biarritz 3rd, Short 5th, Bottleneck 6th, Redan 12th, and Punchbowl 16th. Conditions are superb and a recent renovation has improved the layout plenty. I highly recommend this course if you get the chance to play."
