“Nice pine tree lined holes , two kinds of bunkers , do not go in the pot bunkers near the greens, it will take a shot or two or three!"

“Located in Southern Pines, NC , near Pinehurst, designed by Rees Jones. Renovated 2016. A fun, well conditioned, hilly course that has lot elevation changes and quick greens. A challenge for all levels of players."

“I like The New Course at Talamore. It checks many of our boxes. There isn't one bad hole. It offers 5 tees for players of different levels. It has dirt cart paths that take the edge off wayward shots. Its steeply stacked sod bunkers are a novelty for the region, and intimidating. They are exquisite. Due to undulating terrain and subtle elevation changes, the course plays long for 6534 yards from the blues an 6840 from the tips. 6535 from the blues is a manageable number....that's roughly 500 yards longer than the whites. However, the course would benefit from a hybrid mix of teeing grounds because we see the some major distance differences in only a few holes. They're enough to make one question his choice of tees, however. Example: The course presents plenty of forced carries. The 426/400/368/362, par-4, 18th, requires a long drive carry across water to a hole playing diagonally left. My playing partner had been doing acceptably from the blue tees all day, but could not reach the fairway, some 240 yards away. He moved up to the whites. The course begins with a 623/609/564/564/437 uphill par-5. This is the #4 handicap right out of the gate. I played a couple off balls from the blues and could not reach the green in 3. Members complain that this is a tough start. I'd call it a fine, "How do you do?" The uphill, par-3, 2nd plays 201/181/164/131...another challenge. After those openers, the course begins playing easier. It has an unusual rhythm. I love the par-4, 442/422/402/382/325 yard, par-4 7th. This #2 handicap is a dogleg left. It requires a long, perfect drive across a barranca followed by an equally perfect long iron or hybrid into a green with a severe drop to the left. Miss the green and par becomes extremely difficult. Steeply pushed up manufactured green complexes and mounding are a recurring theme on this course. There is nothing subtle or natural about them. Add the deep, sodded bunkers and we can see how Reese Jones used the relatively short distance to demand accuracy. Love them or hate them...my challenge rating simply reflects them. Not a walking course. Conditioning was very good in the playing areas and across much of the course, even after some rain. Overall, however, a fun experience. I will return."

“Conditions were very wet in spite of lack of rain, nothing particularly memorable about the course except the long drives between several of the holes. Definitely not a course you would want to walk."

“More elevation than most courses in Pinehurst."

“Good topography on this golf course. Good shape. Green shapes are fairly oval though. Not a lot of distinctiveness."
