“Brae Burn Country Club has a lot going for it with a Donald Ross designed course, a history of hosting USGA Championships (including a US Open won by Walter Hagen and a US Amateur won by Bobby Jones), as well as excellent conditioning. Despite all of these positives, the course fails to be great. While the course boasts a nice variety of Par 3s, the 8th doesn't provide very good shot options given how the course is maintained. The course is also held back by the sheer volume of short, awkward Par 4s with very few risk/reward options. Overall a course with great history, great conditioning, and quite a few mid level holes."

“A classic Ross course, that is short by modern standards, but has very good conditions. It still has very interesting green complexes and is well worth the trip, provided you receive an invitation."

“Brae Burn is a great club with a great tournament history, most famously hosting the 1928 US Amateur won by Bobby Jones. Today's layout is a great example of Ross design in the earlier part of his career, when he still built small features on his courses, including intimate greens, chocolate drop mounds, and bunkers that were evolving from Victorian pits to the mid-career style found on the other Boston Ross favorites. BB may be unparalleled in the Boston area (maybe behind just Myopia) in terms of a match play venue, as there are no fewer than 10 half-par holes that provide quite a bit of balance, with many rounds including a good share of birdies and bogeys. Its one weakness may be its par fives, as two of them are reachable even by medium hitters, but they provide balance to the long fours at 4, 7, 11, and 18. The variety found here is truly amazing, from the 300-yard first hole from the clubhouse terrace to the 255-yard downhill par three 17th, it's a wild ride!"

“A storied club that has hosted a US Open and an Amateur. The Donald Ross layout is routed over some rolling terrain. The conditions are exceptional and the clubhouse perfect for Boston."
