Overview
Across the street from the Olympic Club is San Francisco's most famous muny, designed by the same architect, Willie Watson. Framed by eucalyptus, cypress and monterey pines, TPC Harding Park hosted a PGA Tour event in the 1950s and 1960s. And it hosted the 2020 PGA Championship, won by Collin Morikawa, after a significant renovation a couple years prior. The course also hosted the 2009 Presidents Cup, as well as the 1937 and 1956 U.S. Amateur Public Links.

“Very good public San Francisco city park with good views. The last three holes were the best."

“Pretty standard architectural fare all the way around. Back nine is much stronger than the front. Always cool to play holes you have seen on TV in a major. Worth playing once, not sure it's worth a repeat."

“1925 Willie Watson and Sam Whiting design. San Francisco municipal course which held the 2020 PGA Championship, located next to Lake Merced and across the water from Olympic Club, which was also designed by Willie Watson. The back nine is more memorable than the front, especially the holes that run next to Lake Mead."

“Just a mediocre course with the last 3 holes being good. Do not like the way that the trees hang out over the left side of #17 blocking the green on a par 3. Not very firm and fast."

“The front nine, in the interior of the property, was fairly ordinary and somewhat repetitive. However, the course started to pop a bit more on a back nine as it looped around the outer border and did a clockwise loop. Two par threes play toward the Northwest and the other two play to the Southeast--more directional variety would have been preferred. I expected the tall cypress trees to choke the playing corridors, but they rarely did. There was ample width in the corridors, with think rough being the primary obstacle off the tee. Greens had some good variety in shape, but generally lacked contour. Course was presented with fairway cut generally all the way up to the bunkers edges which potentially added some difficulty, though I wouldn't call this a difficult course. No water to carry except on the 18th tee makes this very playable for the higher handicapper. Navigating the greens is also quite straight-forward"

“I'm a huge fan. Great routing and course. Conditioning and pace of play can be spotty. However, the finishing stretch of #13-#18 is as good as any course out there. A municipal treasure."

“Fun course with excellent rhythm in the routing. Makes me wish we had a rating for fun factor. Greens rolled true but ran slow. Cost cutting with weird placements of sprinklers around greens. This is a wonderful public facility. Must give points for that. Would have voter higher for aesthetics if part of the course did not run along a busy blvd, and if the SFPD police range was not within earshot. The lake balances that out. Beautiful, bog-boned golf course. Magnificent trees. Extremely fair. Would play it every day."

“A fantastic urban location but a relatively unexciting golf course (except for the closing stretch where the course does up its game). The heavy moist air drifting off the Pacific makes it play long. And condition is very good. And, you get teased with views of Olympic across Lake Merced. And don't leave anything visible in your car - crawling with thieves unfortunately."

“good shape, thought the fairways are over-watered, which is odd in a state that has a constant drought The monterey cypress trees are beautiful to play among , but the course itself lacks interesting greens to make it worth the high green fee more than once."
