Overview
Overshadowed by its championship brother, the South course at LACC is still an incredibly fun course and often gets more play than the more difficult North. Highlighted by interesting variety and shark-toothed bunker formations from George C. Thomas, remodeled by Gil Hanse and Geoff Shackelford, LACC's South course packs less of a punch in comparison to the North. South’s tunnels are one of its most interesting features, Holes 1-2 and 17-18 share the side of Wilshire Road with the North course, while the rest of the holes come after crossing a tunnel to get to the other side of the property. The South also weaves through buildings that provide a fitting metropolitan backdrop for the Tinsel Town stunner. South’s par 3s are probably the highlight of the course, delivering five very different holes and mandating five very different shots.

“This course contributes to the allure of LACC because it is such a great complement to the one of the world's best courses on the same property. Great views of Century City buildings and extremely fun to play."

“LACC South provides nearly excellent shot values. For a relatively short course the South does a good job of mixing the demands of accuracy (holes like #7, #11, #12) with testing length on a couple of the Par 5s (e.g. #3) and longer par 4s (e.g. #5). The South's green complexes add to shot values both in offering a wide variety of options for recovery shots around the greens, but also dictating different options off the tee. Playability of the South course is nearly outstanding. Very few forced carries hinder playability for high handicappers, while the location of hazards (such as on hole #8) challenge the low handicap golfer that wants to take advantage of the relatively shorter course length. The South provides very good resistance to scoring with the course's greens providing the biggest resistance to posting a low score. Design Variety of the course is excellent as is Memorability. Wonderful mix of short and long holes across Par 3s, 4s and 5s. Great mix of routing direction and uphill/flat/downhill holes. The Aesthetics of the South are just shy of excellent. Conditioning of the South is outstanding as the course plays fast and firm and provides a course presentation that allows for a wide variety of shot types to be played successfully. Character is outstanding."

“The South course of the Los Angeles Country Club is a fun and charming Gil Hanse design that is a great compliment to the difficult North course. The first two holes get the course off to a quiet start on the north side of Wilshire and gets interesting once through the tunnel. The long 3rd is an excellent hole while the 4th has a stellar bunkerless green. The best hole may be the shortish par 4 5th with the green set beyond an arroyo. The swinging par 5 8th hole is a great hole and the green complex of the 10th with a fairway hollow in front of the green is unique. The tiny angled green of the 12th is thoughtfully done. LACC's South may not contend for top course honors but it is a fun course that you can play every day. "
