Wyndham Clark takes crack at Tony Romo to explain gap between 'country club good' and PGA Tour pros

Golf is so hot right now that even Hansel himself is starring in a new comedy series about the game. But nowhere do you see this more than in the world of professional sports.

As soon as Caitlin Clark's rookie campaign in the WNBA concluded, she said her goal was to become a "professional golfer" in the offseason. (She came much closer to killing a fan in a pro-am.) And immediately after winning the Super Bowl, Saquon Barkley declared his next athletic target was breaking 80. (He's going to need more than a "tush push" to go from a 15-handicap to the 70s.)

The list of celebrity golfers is only growing and there are some great players among them. But Wyndham Clark wants to make sure everyone knows there's a difference between scratch golfers and those who play on the PGA Tour. A BIG difference.

"That's like me saying I could be starting left tackle for the Denver Broncos," Clark cracked when asked if any NFL guys could make it as pro golfers during an episode of the Rich Eisen Show.

    Boom, roasted.

"We call it ‘Country Club Good,’ you know," the 2023 U.S. Open champ continued during a spot in which he was promoting the third season of Netflix's Full Swing. "They’re good at their country club and they might beat us in a money game with their strokes that they get. But when they get inside the arena, inside the ropes on the PGA Tour, at really tough golf courses, we’d probably beat them by 8 to 12 shots a day.”

Eisen enjoyed Clark's response, but seemed blown away by that assertion. So then he then asked Clark specifically about Tony Romo, a plus-handicap who has been given some sponsor exemptions into PGA Tour events and has failed to qualify for the U.S. Open several times since retiring from the NFL. That's when Wyndham delivered this delicious dig at the former Dallas Cowboys QB.

"Just ask Romo how much money he’s given to Scottie Scheffler in money games they play in Dallas," Clark said. "And if it’s not in six figures then I’ll be shocked."

Boom, roasted. Again. Not that there's any shame in losing to the World No. 1. Even with handicaps. Anyway, check out the entertaining clip here:

Good for Wyndham defending his turf. And he's not wrong. He just also might want to keep his head on a swivel the next time he attends an NFL game.
