Young Curry

College basketball is already back and we're doing buzzer beaters from the logo at Wichita State

November 10, 2021

We're still smack in the middle of football season, but Tuesday night was giving off serious March Madness energy thanks to the return of college basketball.

While you were watching some high-quality MACtion, Ohio State (the basketball team) nearly went down at home on opening night. The 17th-ranked Buckeyes needed a buzzer-beating layup to squeak past Akron, and it wound up not even being the craziest buzzer beater of the night.

Later in the evening, mid-major powerhouse Wichita State was similarly on the ropes against Jacksonville State, with the scored tied 57-57 and under 20 seconds to play. Enter Shockers point guard Tyson Etienne, who has clearly watched a little too much Steph Curry growing up. How else can you explain Etienne pulling up from the damn logo when any other shot available would have also won his team the game?

Call it the Curry Effect, call it the Dame Time Effect. Whatever it is, it's going to produce some wild shots like this one, but also some absolutely hilariously bricks and airballs from over-confident college kids who have yet to find out how low-percentage of a shot the logo heave is. We will not be complaining about either, for your information.
