Why PGA Tour caddies are going to be a LOT more competitive over the next few days

Next week's PGA Tour stop, the WM Phoenix Open, is often referred to as "The Greatest Show on Grass." However, there will be a pretty entertaining show among a different set of golfers on the Monday of the tournament.

Caddie Aaron Flener announced there will be a two-man scramble among PGA Tour loopers at a Phoenix-area night golf course, Grass Clippings Rolling hills. The venue was renovated in 2023 ahead of the launch of the Grass League in 2024. And now the par-3 league's latest competition featuring a big-money prize might just be its most competitive yet.

"I've already asked John Ellis to be my partner," wrote Flener, J.T. Poston's caddie, in the tweet. "So back off."

It's certainly a smart move by Aaron. Ellis, who caddies for Wyndham Clark, is a former first-team Pac-10 player during his days at Oregon and the winner of nine pro events before becoming a coach and caddie.

But it seems like that might just be the beginning of the jostling among these guys to find a teammate in the event that will feature a minimum payout of $10K. This almost sounds like a scene from "Squid Games."

Former PGA Tour caddie Willy Wilcox, who will be a highly coveted partner himself, seemed pumped as well.

Anyway, good luck to all the PGA Tour caddies out there with playing in the event and finding a partner. Hopefully, there won't be any too many hard feelings.
