College senior makes walk-off albatross (!) to advance to WM Phoenix Open Monday qualifier

    January 30, 2025

A college senior was a longshot to advance through a WM Phoenix Open pre-qualifier on Wednesday when he delivered exactly that. A long shot.

Jackson Parrish needed an eagle on his final hole at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in order to grab one of two available spots in the Monday qualifier for the popular PGA Tour event next week. Miraculously, he did one better than that.

Thanks to Ryan French, AKA Monday Q Info on Twitter, for reporting this incredible finish. Parrish, a senior at Cal Poly, holed his second shot on the closing par 5 for a walkoff albatross.

Talk about coming up clutch. You can't time hitting the shot of your life much better.

French added that Parrish holed a 6-iron from 196 yards for the impropable deuce that gave him an eight-under-par 64 and earned him a tee time in Monday's qualifier at Pinnacle Peak Country Club. Parrish, who won the Nevada State Amateur in July, will is attempting to qualify for his first PGA Tour event.

Fellow amateur Warren Beach shot 63 to also advance to what will be the final WM Phoenix Open Monday qualifier after the PGA Tour decided to eliminate Monday qualifiers at certain events beginning in 2026 to limit field sizes.
