Ho Hum, another ace
Watch Matthew Wolff make a hole-in-one to stay in contention at the Houston Open
We used to think holes-in-one, even from tour pros, were a big—and relatively rare—deal. But this week they’ve become almost passé.
At the LPGA’s Pelican Women’s Championship in Belleair, Fla., three players have made an ace on the par-3 12th—Austin Ernst, Pavarisa Yoktuan and Su Oh. The last two came during the tournament proper. Because of the promotion a local car dealership has on that hole this week, all three players won two-year leases on a Lamborghini for their sweet swings.
Matthew Wolff won’t be riding away in a luxury sports car for the shot he pulled off on Sunday at the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open, but the 22-year-old was still smiles after his showing on the par-3 ninth hole at Memorial Park.
Wolff’s 1 came at a pretty crucial moment. After starting the day one shot off the lead, Wolff had made three bogeys in his first six holes on Sunday. He did have one birdie in that stretch too, so the hole-in-one brought him back to even par for the round and kept him in contention heading to the back nine. Wollf has been on quite the roll of late, having posted top-five finishes in his last two starts after going through a highly publicized struggle with mental health issues earlier this year.
Suffice it to say, Wolff has to be happy with at least one swing on Sunday. Just don’t tell him how the LPGA pros won Lamborghinis for their aces.
