Wake Forest uses cutouts from 'The Bachelor' in crowd to honor former athlete turned contestant

January 14, 2021

This season of 'The Bachelor' features a former college football player named Matt James. I only happen to know that because Matt attended Wake Forest like I did and people have been texting/emailing me to tell me about it. I thought I might even watch an episode or two, but then I decided not to because, well, it's 'The Bachelor.'

Anyway, young Matt actually got some burn at wide receiver his senior year with 40 catches for 401 yards. He'll never be confused with fellow Demon Deacon Ricky Proehl, but he does have a prettier face, which is why he's on ABC's hit show. And I'm guessing Matt did juuuuust a tad better with the ladies in college than I did.

OK, now to the actual point of this post. Wake Forest got creative with its virtual fans by putting cutouts of him, host Chris Harrison, and the remaining contestants in the stands for last night's men's basketball game against Louisville. Check it out:

If the plan was to intimidate or distract the Cardinals, though, sadly, it didn't work. Louisville beat Wake, 77-65. Sigh.

In fact, the Demon Deacons have now dropped four straight to start 2021 and their 0-4 record has them in last place in the ACC. Maybe I should start watching 'The Bachelor' instead.
