Valero Texas Open odds 2023: Rickie Fowler among the favorites. We repeat, Rickie Fowler among the favorites
Ben Jared
On paper, Rickie Fowler's performance at the WGC-Match Play was a disappointment. He didn't advance to the knockout stage, which didn't allow him to play his way into a coveted Masters invitation.
In reality, Fowler contined his fine run of form in Austin, going 2-1-0 in group play with wins over one of the best players in the world, Jon Rahm, and one of the hotter players of late, Keith Mitchell. Dating back to the Zozo Championship in the fall, Fowler has made every single cut, with five top-20 finishes along the way.
Still, that hasn't been enough to get to Augusta. For that to happen, Fowler would need to win this week's Valero Texas Open, where he is among the top two betting favorites on the DraftKings Sportsbook at 16-1 (Tyrrell Hatton is the favorite at 12-1). While it is a rather weak field, this is one of the most telling signs of all that the man might be all the way back. Should he fail to win, it would be the third consecutive year he misses the Masters after having played in 10 straight.
Right behind Fowler is Corey Connersr (20-1), whose lone tour win came in this event in 2019 after he got in by Monday qualifying. Si Woo Kim (22-1), Hideki Matsuyama (22-1) and Taylor Montgomery (25-1) round out the top of the odds board.
