‘Oh that’s piped!’: Travis Kelce shows off ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing in preparation for film cameo
The golf world has Happy Gilmore fever, and as Christopher Walken once quipped, the only prescription is more Happy Gilmore (or something like that). Sandler-worn Bruins jerseys are being auctioned off at astronomical prices, open-casting lines are winding for miles, Max Homa is wrecking trolls with gold-jacket jokes and even Shooter McGavin had to sign an NDA. Netflix’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ isn’t even filming yet, and it’s already a smash hit.
Speaking of smash hits, Chiefs tight end and Taylor Swift pickle-jar opener Travis Kelce was seen working on his Happy-style swing this week. From the looks of things, he took to it like Andy Reid to a Kansas City BBQ joint. Fire away, Trav.
“OH THAT’S PIPED!” Kelce shouts with glee as his ball soars into orbit. He should be, er, happy too, because this wasn’t just for clicks. As Adam Sandler revealed on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon' last week, Kelce is slated to appear in the upcoming ‘Happy Gilmore’ sequel.
On Wednesday’s episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast, ‘New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce,’ Travis said that he went out and immediately began practicing his Happy swing as soon as he heard the news. Apparently that practice paid off. Let's compare, shall we?
Sandler also joined the season-three premiere of 'New Heights,' hinting that his original plan for Kelce was to star as Happy Gilmore’s son in the film.
"We were talking about you playing my son while we were writing it literally like, six months ago," said Sandler. "We were like, 'Imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be.'"
It’s still unclear what exact role Kelce will have in the film, but if it is Happy Jr., at least we know the ball hasn’t fallen far from the range bucket.
