The 2008 Celtics reunited for Paul Pierce's jersey retirement in Boston (except Ray Allen, who played golf)

February 11, 2018

Sunday at TD Garden was supposed to be a day to remember for Boston Celtics fans and franchise legend Paul Pierce, whose #34 jersey went up in the rafters before the Celtics matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Unfortunately, the day will be remembered much less for Pierce's jersey retirement and more for the new-look Cavs turning the corner and manhandling Boston, 121-99.

Despite the blowout, it was still an incredible moment for Pierce, whose jersey will now hang alongside the likes of Larry Bird, Bill Russell and Bob Cousy. That's a pretty big deal, big enough for former teammates Kevin Garnett and the still active Rajon Rondo to come out and show their old teammate respect, in addition to former coach Doc Rivers, who delivered a speech prior to opening tip. This led to a 2008 Celtics reunion photo of sorts, which had one glaring omission:

"Where's Ray?" asked everyone on the internet, referring to Ray Allen, one of the key members of the 2008 NBA champion Celtics. Well, he was playing golf with a celebrity, and I'm not talking about the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, folks:

If you think Allen and his former Celtics teammates have gotten over the sharpshooter leaving them for LeBron and the Heat in 2012, they clearly haven't. Allen's Instagram post with the hole-in-one making George Lopez (damn him) and the Celtics reunion photo from the game just further prove that fact. This is what the kids call "throwing shade".
