Steve Stricker's daughter wins Wisconsin Women's Amateur in the most Steve Stricker way possible
Steve Stricker is not in England this week for the 2021 Open Championship, but the U.S. Ryder Cup captain still had a front-row seat to see his oldest daughter capture a pretty major title of her own.
On Tuesday, Bobbi Stricker won the Wisconsin's Women Amateur in what was truly a family affair. Steve, caddying his youngest daughter Izzi to a T-40, was in attendance. As was wife Nicki, who was on the bag for Bobbi's big win.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the tournament was won on the greens as the daughter of one of the PGA Tour's all-time best putters holed a 30-footer on the first playoff hole that she estimated broke eight feet.
“Oh my gosh, it broke a lot,” Stricker told Wisconsin Golf. “I’m really just trying to feel it in there. It was a bonus it went in.”
The unlikely make defeated former Wisconsin Badgers teammate Emily Lauterbach. Stricker, who shot rounds of 66 and 74 at The Legend of Merrill Hills CC, graduated from UW in May.
Nicki Stricker also played college golf at Wisconsin and has caddied for her husband many times. She told Wisconsin Golf that her daughter has entered the Symetra Tour Qualifying Tournament in August, but will likely remain an amateur unless she earns status on the LPGA's developmental tour.
"Whatever happens, she’s good on just keep improving," Nicki said. "If she can improve over the next two or three years like she has the last five, the sky’s the limit."
