Comedian Shane Gillis reviews his trip to the Masters: 'It was dogs---t, it sucked'

June 06, 2025

One of the most famous comedians on the planet right now, Shane Gillis, made his first trip to the Masters this past April. And based off his scathing review on fellow comedian Andrew Schulz's Flagrant podcast, it sounds like it will be his last.

Gillis was joined on the podcast by his good friend Steve Gerben, the duo promoting Season 2 of their Netflix show "Tires," which they co-created along with John McKeever. Gerben is an avid golfer and a huge golf fan, while Gillis is not. Being the good friend he is, though, and one with the means, he went with Gerben on a private jet down to Georgia in April and they attended the Masters together.

"This is what I do for this guy," Gillis tells Schulz. "I took him on a private jet to the Masters, I don't give a f--k about golf.

"So we're at the Masters, it was dogs--t, it sucked," Gillis said, half-jokingly.

It wasn't until a few minutes later when Gillis actually expounded on that thought, and while we VEHEMENTLY disagree with the "dogs--t" and "sucked" parts, Gillis did make some interesting points. As only an observant comedian can.

"It was awesome, like, it's beautiful [Augusta National]," he added. "Ya know, it's the f---ing Masters so you walk in and you're like, this is awesome. And then after... an hour, you go, oh, it's f---ing golf. You can't see a single thing. And there's no phones, so you're not allowed to have a phone. So like, you just got to look at the scoreboard that somebody's like manually ... they're like, 'he got a two on that last one,' and you go 'oh, nice.'"

If we're being honest, it is very tough to see a lot of shots, especially on a packed tournament day. And the no phones thing seems more and more archaic by the year. And yet, I still personally wouldn't miss the experience and tradition unlike any other for the world every April. As for Shane, he's probably not going to be allowed back, though it sounds like he's just fine with that.
