Watch Sergio Garcia take an absolutely ABSURD line off the 13th tee in the Dubai Desert Classic
You cannot cut corners to reach the heights Sergio Garcia has in his golfing career. That said, the way the ball flies now, cutting corners is often the percentage play.
That would explain the absolutely absurd line Garcia took off the 13th tee on Friday in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, where the Spaniard began his second round in contention following a first-round 66. Through 12 holes of his second round, he stood at even par on the day, and needed to make something happen.
So that's just what Garcia did, pulling out driver, teeing his ball up on the far left side of the box and aiming a mile left in the hopes of flying it over everything and leaving himself with a short iron into the par-5 green. The strategy proved to be successful, and it made for a great video:
Brilliant stuff from Sergio, though the strategy, shotmaking-type people are probably appalled by it. Garcia was not, as he went on to make birdie. It wasn't as aggressive as the line Bubba Watson took at the 2019 Zozo Championship, which remains the most aggressive tee shot potentially in golf history, but this was still damn impressive.
Unfortunately, Garcia went bogey-double bogey just a few holes later, eventually finishing with a birdie on the 18th for a one-over 73. After 36 holes, he's five off the lead of Belgium's Thomas Detry.
