Sean Payton is already making Russell Wilson golf cart jokes after QB's recent on-course mishap

April 24, 2023

Welcome to Broncos Country, let's ride! Well, unless you're playing golf. In that case, it may be better to walk after seeing what recently happened to Russell Wilson.

Denver's star quarterback was playing golf when his cart—Wilson reportedly wasn't driving—flipped over in a sand trap. Talk about a disastrous drive, am I right? Fortunately, no one was hurt. Which is why we can laugh about it now. And crack jokes. And Broncos new head coach Sean Payton isn't wasting any time doing just that.

During a pre-NFL draft press conference, Payton was assessing his team's offense when he inserted a little QB sneak against his own QB, who has had a tough time since being traded from Seattle last year.

"I don’t want the players to feel like they’re pulling into the parking lot coming to football practice in April," Payton said. "That’s just not happening. So it’s great to see these guys around. Hopefully we can keep the golf carts upright. But uh, yeah, no meetings, just weight room and running."

Hopefully we can keep the golf carts upright. Boom, roasted. Payton, an avid golfer himself, really slipped that line in there, too. Have a look:

Sorry, Russell, but when your golf cart flips over, you deserve to get roasted. And we're guessing this won't be the last time you hear about it this year.
