This absurd stat shows just how good Scottie Scheffler was in the month of May

June 02, 2025

Scottie Scheffler is en fuego. After a slow start to the season, the World No. 1 has won three times since May 4th, topping the leaderboard at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the PGA Championship and the Memorial. The only tournament Scheffler didn’t cap with a trophy in the last month was the Charles Schwab Challenge … where he finished T4. Not too shabby.

But how good has Scheffler’s last few weeks really been? How should we communicate the sheer scope of his dominance to casuals who go cross-eyed at the mention of strokes gained tee-to-green? Well, let’s put it this way …

Since his first victory at TPC Craig Ranch on May 4th, Scheffler, an individual golfer, has more wins than the Colorado Rockies, an entire MLB organization. In fact, right about the time Scheffler waltzed into the winner’s circle at Jack’s Place on Sunday, the Rockies fell 5-3 to the Mets, becoming the fastest team to 50 losses in baseball’s modern era (post-1901). The Rockies are on pace for the worst season in MLB history, winning a grand total of three games between May 4th and June 1st. They have not won a single series all season.

So is this a testament to Scottie Scheffler’s recent greatness or the Rockies historic ineptitude? A little bit of column A, a little bit of column B, but if we were the Rockies front office, we’d give Scottie's agent a call. With that footwork, maybe he can even play a little shortstop.
