Players 2021: Ian Poulter mocks his lunch table of Euro stars for how badly they played on Day 1

March 11, 2021

TPC Sawgrass was kicking ass and taking names on Thursday. Big names, at that. Many of the world's best golfers struggled on Day 1 of the Players Championship, and apparently, misery loves company even at the game's highest level.

Just take the famous foursome of Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Tyrrell Hatton, and Ian Poulter. This group gathered for lunch in the clubhouse following their rough first rounds and Poulter (of course) took the opportunity to document their collective struggles.

"Got a helluva lunch table here," Poulter begins. "Collectively, four people sitting at this table—myself, Rory, Henrik has just left, and Tyrrell—TWENTY-NINE over. How you doin? Ah, what a bunch of muppets."

For the record, Hatton was low man in this group with a 76. He was followed by Poulter (77), McIlroy (79), and Stenson (85!). OK, here's the video:

Good stuff, Ian. Especially that last line. I need to start working the word "muppets" into my daily conversations.

Anyway, hang in there, guys. You've got three more days at TPC Sawgrass. Well, probably just one more day, actually. . .
