They're Just Like Us

PGA Championship 2022: Collin Morikawa hits tee shot right into the water, tells himself ‘great job’

It’s happened to all of us.

You’re having a tough day, you miss a gettable birdie putt, then the wind takes over and the next thing you know, your ball is submerged in the water.

The thing is that when us plebians do it and get irate, millions of people won’t see it. The same can’t be said for Collin Morikawa.

The 2020 PGA winner hasn’t been at his best thus far despite the high expectations. At two over heading into the par-4 18, Morikawa called his shot. Unfortunately, his call was “straight in the water,” and the ball obliged.

Things could’ve been worse, at least, as Morikawa escaped with only a bogey, dropping to three over.

On a brutal day consisting of Mother Nature's wrath and putts unable to find the bottom of the hole, Morikawa isn’t alone trying to make something of nothing. He just got unlucky that the cameras and mics caught him at the wrong time.

Well … the wrong time for him and the right time for us.
