PGA Championship 2021: Phil Mickelson, Verne Lundquist combine for an all-time electric highlight
Sunday at the 2021 PGA Championship has produced more momentum swings than an a typical NBA game and more highlights than some as well. Oh, and we've only seen five holes from the leaders so far.
Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka have been ham-and-egging their way around the Ocean Course's opening stretch, flip-flopping at the top of the leader board. But one flop from Phil from a sandy area has the potential to go down as an all-time shot in his legendary career. And combined with CBS' Verne Lundquist on the call, it's already an instant classic.
Have a look and listen as Mickelson holed this bunker shot for a miraculous birdie on the par-3 fifth:
Phil! Verne! OH MY GRACIOUS, indeed. It's absolute madness out there right now. Here's another look:
We've seen Phil pull this type of stuff off for decades, but it never gets old. And again, this one could wind up being the difference as this gave the 50-year-old a two-shot lead as he tries to make history by becoming the oldest major champ in history.
But again, there's a lot of golf left. So take a deep breath. Or, try to, at least.
