PGA Championship 2018: PGA Tour pro gets brutally bad break on near hole-in-one
Bellerive Country Club hasn't been quite the pushover it was predicted to be on Day 1 of the 2018 PGA Championship. That being said, the actual hole isn't usually supposed to be one of a golf course's defenses. But Nick Watney found out the hard way that plastic can cause a pretty hard bounce.
Playing the par-3 13th hole (Watney's fourth hole of the tournament), the five-time PGA Tour winner hit what appeared to be a perfect shot from 180 yards — only it was a little too perfect. Instead of erasing two early bogeys with a slam dunk hole-in-one, Watney's golf ball caromed off/out of the cup and wound up off the green some 20 yards away. Take a look at this brutally bad break:
Ouch. We're surprised Verne Lundquist didn't let out an "In your life!" And as Dottie Pepper pointed out, "he doesn't even get credit for a green in regulation!"
But we're happy to report Watney was at least able to walk away with a par. The golf gods are only so cruel.
