Ryder Cup 2021: Paul Azinger lays heavy body blow on Florida State football during live Ryder Cup coverage

    September 24, 2021

Paul Azinger and the U.S. Ryder Cup pairing of Daniel Berger and Brooks Koepka have something in common: They’re all proud Florida State Seminoles. Sure, they graduated over 30 years apart, but that’s a bond that lasts a lifetime. One that, in its own unique way, bled into Ryder Cup coverage on Friday, when Azinger landed this absolute haymaker on his alma mater following Berger and Kopeka’s big win over Lee Westwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick in morning foursomes.

Even Fox’s college football no. 2—the right hand to Gus Johnson’s stinging south paw, Joel Klatt—approved of the body blow.

Azinger’s jab, of course, comes on the heels of an absolutely disastrous start to the college football season for the Semionles, who are now 0-3 following humiliating back-to-back losses to FCS Jacksonville State and ACC bottom feeders Wake Forest. The latest losses are part of the program’s slide toward rock bottom following the departure of Jimbo Fisher, and the concern in Tallahassee is that losing could soon become the rule, not the exception.

That thought is clearly weighing heavily on Zing as the Ryder Cup intensifies, but hopefully by the end of play on Saturday, both the Seminoles and the boys in (navy) blue will give him something to cheer about.
