Save for later

The only thing worse than getting ridiculed online by a fellow golfer is getting ridiculed online by one of the best courses in the U.S. There are but a few good things left on the Internet; this is one of those.

Heading into the College Football National Championship, NFL pundit and University of Miami grad Kevin Clark received a hell of an unprompted offer from Pinehurst No. 2: If Miami wins the national title, [Kevin Clark] gets a round with a guest on No. 2. Now, as we all know (Go IU!), Miami lost a close one 27-21 and Clark thought his dream was dashed.

Josh Allen never getting over the NFL playoff hump is a perfect comparison to Clark’s missed opportunity. And this was a great/brutal move by KC to irritate the Bills faithful one more time, for good measure.

Luckily, for Clark and a guest to be named later, Pinehurst has decided to let the ESPN-er tee off … with a stipulation. It was never going to be easy.

"We'll still honor it, but you have to buy Curt Cignetti a beer from Pinehurst Brewing Co."

We know that Cig likes his beers, so this ultimately seems like a win-win for everyone, except the University of Miami’s football team, of course. Clark even added "Five-putting on No. 2 after having nine 'Google Me IPAs'" with a meme of Max Homa announcing, "I’m a dog and I’m ready for this moment."

This is where Pinehurst put the screws to Clark one final time. The course might be hosting four U.S. Opens over the next few decades, but we can’t imagine it’s going to get much better than this.

"You won't need the IPAs to 5-putt on No. 2…"

To be fair, Kevin Clark will be testing his luck at Pinehurst No. 2 while the rest of us stick to our local munys. So the real losers are ... the rest of us? Ugh. This didn't go the way I wanted it to.
